Project Focus: DFA, Accessibility, Wiring, Research
5 Week Project | Winter 2024
Symptoms of Parkinson’s
Not every symptom of Parkinson’s will affect a user’s interaction with a lamp. I targeted the symptoms that can most likely be impacted and relieved by a thoughtful lamp design.
I received directional feedback from Scott Ryder at different stages throughout the design process. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2011, Ryder advocates for people with Parkinson’s and is a board member and a top volunteer of Parkinson’s Foundation Development Committee.
Inspiration
I drew visual inspiration from products and fashion popular in the 1960s. Their use of warm color and interesting yet ergonomic forms strongly inspired the lamp’s design direction.
